The Power of the False
Philosophy cannot discard metaphysics - thought is the source of evaluation and ideas, like hypotheses.
However, metaphysical statements are constrained insofar as they are entirely unfalsifiable and non-verifiable. But, these constraints mean that the ideas, hypotheses, in question, must be suspended to be revived when relevant evidence emerges.
Evidence may be material or it may be a logical explanation. Logic has defended metaphysics for eras. The evaluation of logical claims is enhanced by material evidence, and by critical rebuttals to critique - an absent step in many problems.
Deleuze makes very strong claims for the role of evaluation in the context of the ‘power of the false.’ He obtains this notion from Nietzsche but by abstracting; FN’s Will to Power addresses falsehood but is not mired in it. However, deception, deceit, lying, obfuscation, obscuring, etc., is our dilemma. Falsehood has power!! This dovetails uneasily with Popper’s falsification thesis, which posits falsifying as ‘one fell swoop’ to the truth.
Metaphysics is limited by logic, evidence, falsification, evaluation and the power of the false, but our imagination and thought must still move through this medium, all the ideologies, to reach for an epistemic advance!
